A Message from the Interim ModeratorSeptember 14, 2012
We were all sad to hear of the death of the Rev. Gordon Savage back in May after such a long illness and the thoughts and prayers of everyone at Maxwelltown West have of course been with Gordon’s family.
The congregation of Maxwelltown West has also been in the thoughts and prayers of many people, especially those from other churches in the area, as members come to terms with the loss of Gordon. Gordon was loyal not only to his Lord but also to the people of Maxwelltown West. Many people were helped by him over the years as he ministered faithfully to congregation and parish as well as to the wider world. The work he has done as minister must now be seen as a foundation upon which to build, as Maxwelltown West moves into the future.
At the last meeting of the Kirk Session the elders were very clear that, when the time is right, they should seek to find a new minister to take the work at Maxwelltown West forward. The next step lies with Presbytery who will decide when the time is right. It may be that Presbytery will decide to allow Maxwelltown West to call a minister very quickly, or it may be that matters of Presbytery Planning will first have to be discussed before a call can be granted. Either way the process is likely to take a few months to complete but I would hope by the autumn we would have a clearer idea of what the future might hold.
In the meantime I would urge you all to pray that ultimately the right person will be found to lead Maxwelltown West into the future.
