“Receive greetings in the name of Jesus Christ. We, PCEA MATHIA are doing fine and we hope you too are well,” writes Elder John Njeru. The congregation has increased, not only in number but also spiritually – “we thank God a lot for this mighty work whereby many people who have had His calling are ready to serve him.” However, although there has been improvement in the church, there are also many financial challenges to cope with.
One of the long serving church elders, James Mwangi will be retiring this September. He has been very “vibrant in God’s work” and PCEA Mathia thank him for his service. Sadly, one of the church members, Charity Karungari who was 100 years old, passed away. She met the group who visited from Maxwelltown West Church many years ago.
The Women’s Guild is doing well. They have 20 new followers who will be commissioned to become full Guild members by the end of the year. They were very busy during their Guild week, especially when they came to the aid of those people who were affected by the floods in April, causing many of them to be displaced. The young members have been doing well too. They have been organising seminars about matters affecting the youth in society. These seminars have enabled them to open up to each other about how these issues particularly affect them. They are planning on visiting a children’s home in August which is always their routine every year when everyone is on holiday.
Finally, Elder John Njeru writes that he has been asked to work with other ministers and elders, including those who have retired, to compile an encyclopaedia about Mathia Church and its parish, part of Kirimara East Presbytery. He ends his report with the words: “May God bless you”
